Maine Coons are one of the easiest cat breeds to introduce to dogs. Their calm and confident personalities make them less likely to run away or hide, which helps dogs learn to respect them.
Because they are large and relaxed, Maine Coons often hold their ground instead of getting nervous. The kittens I raise in my cattery grow up with lots of activity around them, so they learn early to adjust to different sights and sounds. This helps them transition smoothly into homes with dogs.

If you’re planning to bring a Maine Coon into a house with a dog, here are a few tips:
Start with short, calm introductions.
Supervise at first until you know they’re comfortable.
Provide a safe spot up high, like a cat tree, so your cat can retreat if needed.
Reward both your dog and cat for good behavior with praise or treats.
Over time, many Maine Coons and dogs become wonderful companions. Families often tell me their pets nap together, play together, and sometimes even groom each other. Of course, every animal is different, but the gentle and confident nature of the Maine Coon makes them one of the best breeds to live happily with dogs.
