Polydactyl simply means they have extra toes. Instead of the usual five, they can have six or even seven. Their wide “patty paws” look like mittens and are one of the first things families notice.
From what I’ve seen, those extra toes don’t change a cat’s heart. A Maine Coon’s personality comes from their lineage, how they’re raised, and the relationship they build with their family.
That being said, I have noticed that my polydactyls tend to be very loving and playful. Their bigger paws give them a little advantage when it comes to batting toys, climbing, and even trying to pick things up. It makes them look especially active and fun, which is part of their charm.
When it comes to being loving, my polydactyls are no different than my other Maine Coons. All Maine Coons are known for their sweet, gentle nature. Whether they have five toes or seven, they love to follow you around, sit close by, and give those soft head bumps that melt your heart.
So are polydactyl Maine Coons more loving and playful? I would say not always, but their mitten-like paws do add an extra dose of fun to playtime. At the end of the day, it’s their personality and the bond they share with you that truly makes them special.
