🐾 The Maine Coon isn’t just famous for its size and friendly personality—it’s also known for its breathtaking range of coat colors and patterns. From rich, earthy tones to icy silvers and snowy whites, these gentle giants wear their fur like royalty.
Let’s explore the incredible spectrum of Maine Coon colors, with images to help you see their beauty in.
The main coat colors for the Maine
1.Solid
Description: Black-Sleek and mysterious, solid black Maine Coons have a rich, velvety coat and often golden or copper eyes.
Red-Bold and warm, red tabbies (aka orange or ginger) are friendly and attention-grabbing.
Blue-A soft, smoky gray that’s elegant and calming. Sometimes appears almost silver in the light.
Cream-A pale version of red, with a pastel tone that’s delicate and refined.
White-Angelic and rare, white Maine Coons have a pure coat and can have blue, gold, or odd-colored eyes. Health Note: Blue-eyed all whites can be prone to deafness.
2.Tabby
Tabby is not a color, it is a pattern. The most iconic Maine Coon color or pattern is a rich brown with black stripes and the famous “M” shape on the forehead.
Pattern: Can be classic (swirled), mackerel (striped), spotted or ticked in any coat color.
Personality Fit: Confident and playful.
2.Silver Tabby
Description: Similar to the brown tabby but with a shimmering silver base instead of brown. Absolutely striking in the light.
Pattern: Same as brown tabby—classic, mackerel, spotted or ticked.
8.Tortoiseshell (Tortie)
Description: A mix of black and red or cream—no two torties look alike! Often feisty and full of personality.
9.Blue-Cream (Dilute Tortie)
Description: A soft blend of blue and cream—like a pastel version of a tortie. Subtle, sweet, and unique.
10.Smoke
Description: Looks solid at first glance, but the undercoat is white or pale silver. A dramatic and elegant effect.
Common Colors: Black smoke, blue smoke, red smoke, cream smoke.
11.Bi-Color
Description: A mix of white with another solid color like black, blue, or red.
Popular Combinations: Black and white (tuxedo style), blue and white.
The girl pictured in the middle is also a merle, which in cat terms means that she has areas of her coat that are completely black giving her a spotted look.
13.Shaded
Description: Rare and luxurious, with white undercoats and tipped hairs that give a shaded or glimmering look.
Color Types: Shaded silver, shaded are always agouti.
All of these kittens pictured here did not have a single white parent in their lineage therefore their coats cannot be white and they are indeed shaded.
